Abstract:

Causal diagram is a powerful tool to depict complicated causal relationship, especially in observational studies. In some situations, the effect of risk factor on outcome is confounded by several factors, some of which might even not be observable. This paper gives the sufficient and necessary condition of identifiability of causal diagram, i.e., when the causal effect can be evaluated from observed factors. Potential applications of causal diagrams are also discussed.
