Abstract:

Statistical literacy requires interpretation and evaluation of data and statistical information or random events, as well as communicating understanding of conclusions and their support by the data. Such specific skills can be integrated into a curricular development, support and assessment model called a Mastery Rubric. The Mastery Rubric (MR) is a skill x performance level table that articulates and embodies the curricular learning goals, facilitating alignment of courses and assignments with the curriculum. Students have multiple opportunities to develop-and demonstrate improvement in- each of the skills identified in the MR. Student success is characterized, not by completion of courses or assignments, but by documented development of habits of mind and skills that can foster excellence in evidence-based practice and research. A MR for clinical research training will be discussed.
