Abstract:

George Waddell Snedecor (1882--1974), a notable statistician, founder of the first statistical laboratory in the United States, spent half of his life at Iowa State College (now University ). This poster presents some glimpses of his personal and professional life using statistical archival records from the special collection department at ISU. Based on these historical documents which include some personal and professional papers, publications, correspondence with many prominent statisticians, George Snedecor is portrayed as a giant in his field, a great scientist and a statistician who led a long, productive and admirable life. This is one of the six posters about the history of statistics.
