Abstract:
|
The Center for Data Analysis and Statistics (CDAS) at West Point has teamed with several military medical research groups to conduct studies of incidence for various medical problems of concern among military members. Using large quantities of data across all military services these studies have allowed us to identify important demographic factors in incidence of meniscus injuries, shoulder dislocations, DeQuervain's tenosynovitis and other common muscular-skeletal problems. We will also report on a similar ongoing study receiving a Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) grant involving the study of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in the military over a ten year period. Given the importance and public health burden of TBI a study of this scope may offer a tremendous benefit to the medical community.
