Abstract:
|
The 2001-06 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) sampling criterion included oversampling pregnant women to achieve more precise estimates involving pregnancy status. To evaluate the quality of this sampling strategy we assessed response rates for pregnant and non-pregnant women and assessed summary statistics. This assessment included comparing descriptive statistics and nutritional intake for pregnant versus non-pregnant women. The sampling frame for pregnant women creates the opportunity to calculate more reliable estimates to describe nutritional status of pregnant women in the U.S. The significance of these more accurate estimates permit policy makers to do a better job addressing issues related to maternal health.
