Abstract:
|
In 2005 the Bureau of Labor Statistics began producing estimates of employment and unemployment for census divisions, states and 5 Metropolitan Statistical Areas using time series models. The data come from the Current Population Survey. The models capture the survey error process, along with conventional modeling of the underlying true time series. State Time Series Analysis and Review System (STARS) tables are analytical tools, which contain series of detailed tables and graphs provided to states each month in order to aid them in better understanding of the monthly estimates. The purpose of this poster session is to describe how to use the STARS tables and other analytical tools to gain better understanding of monthly estimates, such as identifying seasonal patterns, identifying unusual movements in the series, and controlling state estimates to national estimates.
