Abstract:

Addictions treatment use ecosystems approaches; however, strengths of individual social networks are rarely measured. This analysis inquires into the reliable use of the Orientation of Social Support instrument to measure simple egocentric social networks. Method. Data were collected on a cohort of participants (N = 21) participating in a cognitive-behavioral oriented program. A test/retest approach, with a three-day lag between instrument administrations, was used. During data collection, 21 individuals completed the initial instrument with 15 completing the retest. A Pearson-produce moment coefficient measured the strength of the test /retest. Given the sample size and the use of a repeated measures approach, this produced moderate power. Results. The instrument demonstrated a high degree of test/retest reliability (n=9, r2=.976, p=.000). The descriptive for the test phase was M=.0876.
