Abstract:

This topic contributed panel will focus on the important role of statistics education and what can be done to promote and support this field. Several issues will be examined: 1) The development of new graduate programs in statistics education to prepare researchers in statistics education (program characteristics and coursework); 2) The support of faculty whose area of research is statistics education (new tenure track positions, how this compares to non tenure track teaching positions, etc.); 3) Professional development needs and opportunities for statistics faculty who want to pursue statistics education research; 4) The need to connect research to practical teaching issues and problems; 5) Needed activities and next steps.
