Abstract:
|
Academic statisticians are vital to the success of both government and private industry survey organizations. Both sectors often establish long-term partnerships with prominent academic statisticians. While there are many common purposes for establishing these partnerships, there are differences too. As someone who has managed government statistical programs for many decades and transitioned to private industry a couple of years ago, I will discuss the purposes and the practicalities of the academic partnerships. I will also describe some of the successes and some of the barriers to successful partnerships between survey organizations and academic statisticians.
