Abstract:
|
Incidence of overweight and obesity among the United States population is not a new area of research, however there has been a steady rise in concern among society due to the long-term effects of early childhood obesity and resulting negative impacts on health in later adult life. Longitudinal studies have found that obesity has increased substantially over the last 3 decades (Christakis and Fowler 2007). Obesity related health implications such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and type II diabetes are increasingly found among children. Health concerns and problems traditionally found among adults are spreading among all age groups, affecting not only the quality of a life but possibly decreasing healthy life span hence; today's children could possibly live shorter healthy lives than their parents (Daniels 2006).
