Keywords: American Community Survey ; data products ; multiyear estimates ; reliability ; user education
Abstract:

The 2010 Census will not collect or publish the detailed socioeconomic, demographic, and housing data that were a part of the "long form" in Census 2000. The new source of these data is the American Community Survey (ACS), a continuous survey with new samples of 250,000 addresses every month. This roundtable is designed to introduce statisticians to the ACS and is intended for people with little or no ACS background. Discussion will center on key design aspects of the program, data products, information available to users, and some of the most important issues that have emerged for the program thus far. Statisticians new to decennial census data will benefit from learning how the ACS can be a valuable tool.
