Abstract:
|
At a panel discussion at the Joint Statistical Meeting in August 2009 in Washington, members discussed the pros, cons, rewards and challenges related to their experiences involving undergraduate students in statistical consulting, both in and out of the classroom. The discussion included specific examples of courses and programs that can facilitate undergraduate consulting, what is involved to make these experiences successful, as well as words of wisdom, and "do's and don't's." Based upon the collective experiences, the authors strongly believe that these opportunities provide a rich source of learning for undergraduate students and that the pros far outweigh the cons.
