Abstract:

Health care data standards have been developed and are being implemented with the goal of improving health care and developing new treatments. Standards facilitate the collection, analysis, and sharing of health care data. Standards are domestic and global. Exchanges can be proprietary or open access. We will review some of the major initiatives and discuss impacts on our profession and future trends, including ethical implications. Examples include: Electronic Medical Records and HL7, CDISC, Clinical genomics.
