Abstract:

Large companies historically establish and maintain numerous collaborations with academia. Though useful, many of these collaborations are not always as productive as they could be because in some cases they lack shared vision and/or adequate interactions between company staff and faculty. This presentation will highlight the highly successful collaboration between GlaxoSmithKline and North Carolina State University's Department of Statistics. This collaboration has resulted in GSK problems being solved and the resulting statistical research being used in publications and dissertations. This ongoing collaboration was recognized last year winning the 2008 SPAIG award recognizing the excellent training, mentorship, and work experience for Masters and PhD graduate students and opportunities for financial support for hundreds of graduate students over the years.
