Abstract:

Spurred by concerns about course duplication at the graduate level, and by tightening budgets and increased demand for additional professors in all departments, the Graduate College at Texas Tech University charged an Interdisciplinary Committee to develop an inventory of statistical courses, recommend ways to teach state-of-the-art statistical procedures, and to recommend ways to provide content specific applications. This presentation gives the results of the committee's findings. First, "statistics course" was given an operational definition. Next, the teaching of "statistics courses" was measured and tabulated across the university. Finally, recommendations concerning the teaching of statistics and course duplication were provided to the administration.
