Abstract:

After working in research psychology and in statistics, I decided to return to school to obtain a doctorate in a statistical field. I chose a program in biostatistics, because the methods emphasized were of most interest to me. My long-term goal had always been to work in a multidisciplinary environment, and moving from research psychology to statistics did not change that. In this talk, I will describe some of the features of such an environment, the challenges faced by statisticians in such environments (where often they are the only statistician), and the great advantages to science and statistical application that can result from such collaborations.
