Abstract:

Statistics Netherlands has been putting more focus on visualizing statistics in more attractive and interactive ways. The visualizations on "working mothers" and the "business cycle tracer" are early examples of this work. In addition certain statistical subjects have been selected as candidates for further visualization. Statistics Netherlands is currently implementing the first ideas. Examples are an animation on income, on adoption and on international trade. A second flavor of visualizations is based on geographic data. Many data of Statistics Netherlands are available at neighborhood level. These figures were already accessible via maps generated from the statistical database, but by using modern geographical web-tools they could be presented more attractively. This presentation shows some of our visualization initiatives and their use by example, and our new experimental work.
