Abstract:

RExcel is an add-in for MS Excel that provides access to R. RExcel provides: data transfer between R and Excel in both directions, running R code directly from Excel ranges, Excel macros running R calculations, calling R functions directly from cell formulas and therefore within Excel's autorecalculate mechanism, using Excel as Gui for R, making R functionality accessible through menus and dialog boxes. RExcel integrates ALL R packages (more than 1500) into Excel, making a state of the art statistics program with a spreadsheet interface. The presentations by Richard Heiberger and Christian Ritter in our session illustrate how RExcel can be used both in an academic teaching oriented context and in an industrial research oriented setting. RExcel is currently available only on MS Windows. We have prototype of a similar toolkit available for OpenOffice on Windows, OSX, and Linux.
