Abstract:

Climate change is one of the grand challenges facing the new administration and new Congress. Uncertainty in the data and other statistical issues are rarely part of the discussion. A group of ASA members has been working to determine ways that statisticians can best aid Congress in general, using climate change as a case study. The group has been talking with Hill staffers about the role that statisticians can play and the value they can add. They have also produced materials to educate Congress on this topic. This panel will discuss its experiences and share the lessons learned about how statisticians can best help Congress and the administration on important policy issues.
