Abstract:

The distinction between online and traditional ground courses is disappearing, and on line is winning. Tools and techniques originally developed for the delivery of on line courses are rapidly becoming a part of traditional course tools. Consider course management systems, email, pod casts, screen casts, Skype, etc. These are all on line tools that are becoming an integral part of traditional ground courses. At the same time some of us are exploring how to bring ground based collaborative pedagogy to on line instruction. Technologies are also making remote face to face interaction a viable reality for most students, allowing online instruction to have a distinctly traditional feel. In this talk we will explore the cross fertilization that is occurring, bringing the best of both types of instruction to what may well become the new hybrid model for statistics education.
