Abstract:

Genomic activity can rarely be represented by a single gene, nor are common diseases by single locus mutations. As complex systems have correlated nonlinear components, this presentation discusses recent extensions of U-statistic that can integrate epistatic sets of diplotypes, gene expression profiles, and environmental risk sets to study their relation with complex phenotypes with implications to pharmacogenetics and genomics. Because nonparametric approaches can be computationally extensive, examples will demonstrate he use of the S and R statistical computer programming languages and a grid environment.
