Public Transportation

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA): DC's subway and bus system is called "Metro"
MARC Train: this commuter train offers an inexpensive way to get to DC from BWI Airport
Amtrak: take the train to Union Station, in the heart of DC (station name online: Washington - Union Station, DC)
DC Circulator: this local bus system connects Union Station with Georgetown, the National Mall with Walter E. Washington Convention Center, and a seasonal loop around the National Mall, priced at just $1 per ride
Taxis: The DC taxi cab system operates on a meter system. Fares begin at $3, plus 25 cents per each additional 1/6 mile and 25 cents per minute of wait time.

Washington Convention Center Parking

Over 3000 parking spaces in a three block radius of the facility have been identified. These spaces are available on a first come, first serve basis. We encourage exhibitors and attendees to use the public parking facilities, so that it does not impact the limited residential parking. There are also approximately 100 metered parking spaces within close proximity to the facility.
There are twelve designated public parking spaces designated for vehicles displaying disability parking placards/permits or license tags in the following locations:

* North end of 7th Street between L and Mt Vernon Streets (3 metered spaces)
* South end of 9th Steet between Mount Vernon Place and L Street (3 metered spaces)
* South end of 9th Street between L Street and M Street (3 metered spaces)
* South end of 9th Street between M Street and N Street (3 metered spaces)

Parking signs are posted indicating that the spaces are for two-hour parking from 7:00am - 6:30pm daily.

POLICIES

Electronic Devices
All cell phones, pagers, and other electronic devices should be turned off before attending any session or meeting.

Smoking
Smoking is not permitted at any JSM function, unless the event is held outside.

Photographs and Videotaping
Taking photographs or using video equipment during any JSM session or event is prohibited.

Recycling at JSM
Please use the paper, plastic, and aluminum containers located throughout the Washington Convention Center. Also, participating in the towel and linen programs at area hotels makes a significant difference in the amount of energy and water used. You also can change the option from print to not print or use the paper recycling containers available at the Cyber Center. Finally, place the JSM badges and badge holders in one of the designated bins for recycling in the registration area.

Membership
Information about the ASA, ENAR, WNAR, IMS, and SSC is available at the society booths in the registration area and exhibit hall. Each society provides a variety of publications and activities to anyone interested in applied and or theoretical statistics, and student membership is offered at substantially reduced rates.

There are 20 terminals with internet access available for your emailing needs, as well as three printers. Also, the Washington Convention Center has wireless internet access throughout the building for $24.95 per day.
