Abstract:

An interdisciplinary team of faculty members is developing a collection of interactive probability modules for use in calculus-based courses in probability and mathematical statistics. Each of these modules focuses on a probability distribution function or statistical concept and contains interactive graphics, data sets and suggested laboratory activities. These modules can enhance student learning by allowing students to visualize the behavior of a probability distribution function when the values of its parameters are changing. Many real-world data sets enabling students to explore and enhance their understanding of the relationship between theory and applications are included. Suggested activities allow the student to delve deeper into the underlying concepts. The software is implemented in Java. It is user friendly and menu driven and requires no programming knowledge from the user.
