Abstract:

The most innovative analysis is of little use if it is not converted to information that can be effectively communicated. Visualization of information such as charts, graphs, and maps, if properly designed, can communicate complex information clearly and concisely. This paper pulls together the research done by renowned experts in the field of visualization such as Stephen Kosslyn, Colin Ware, Edward Tufte, William Cleveland, and others, into six recommended best practices for quantitative presentations. The author's experience in using these techniques in the business world is included. Extensive examples are provided, encouraging interaction with the audience. The specific communication forum that is discussed is MS PowerPoint, one of the most used and criticized formats used today. This presentation will benefit anyone who ever finds themselves making presentations to others.
