Abstract:

This presentation will describe several longitudinal studies which are available to investigators interested in studying childhood precursors of adult disease. These databases include the National Longitudinal Study of Youth, the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, the Bogalusa Heart Study, the National Growth and Health Study, and the Fels Longitudinal Study. All of these studies include familial and child specific data on health. Some also have collected genetic material and others have contextual variables such as geocoded environmental data. For each study, an overview of the study design, variables collected, and time course for data collection will be reviewed. In addition, commonalities and differences between studies will be highlighted.
