Abstract:

The purpose of this roundtable is to discuss common issues and situations that arise for statisticians and related professionals when transitioning from graduate school to the "real world." Topics to be considered include: networking, job interviews, financial realities, workplace dynamics, and career development. An underlying theme concerns how to understand the similarities and differences between academic and work environments to overcome common challenges. The moderator in this case has six years of professional experience after graduate school, so can offer his perspective. It is intended that participants be able to share their own experiences with the group in a conversational setting.
