Abstract:

Winning a one day international (ODI) cricket match could depend on various factors related to the strengths of the two teams. While some of these factors have been analyzed and well documented in the literature, some are yet to be investigated. Based on the analysis in this paper, statistical significance of a range of variables that could explain the outcome of an ODI cricket match are explored. In particular, home ground advantage, winning the toss, game plan (batting first or fielding first with the winning of the toss), match type (day or day and night) and the effect of the Duckworth-Lewis method for the matches shortened due to rain will be key interests in the investigation.
