Abstract:

In the legacy of John Tukey, we have been trying to come up with good pictures to "force the unexpected upon us" as the example of this year's ASA Data Exposition. The data are geographic and atmospheric measures on a coarse, 24x24 grid covering Central America. Using conventional graphics and less-conventional interactive graphics, we were able to find familiar features in the data, such as the El Niño and La Niña events, as well as more surprising results. Do you want to know about the relationship between high temperatures in Bogota in May and a white Christmas in Florida? Come and see for yourself!
