Meta Analysis - New Software for Computing Treatment Effects, Running Analyses, and Creating Forest Plots - Continuing Education - CTW
ASA
Instructor(s): Michael Borenstein, Biostat, Inc., Hannah R. Rothstein, Biostat, Inc.
This course will address a number of issues in meta analysis. These include computing treatment effects from binary, continuous, and other kinds of data; synthesizing data using fixed, random, and mixed effects models; using ANOVA and regression procedures to assess the impact of moderator variables; combining data for independent subgroups within studies, working with multiple outcomes; and creating high-resolution forest plots for publication and presentation. For each issue the course will include an overview of the theory, a discussion of the practical implications, and a demonstration of how software would be used to accomplish the required task. The software is Comprehensive Meta Analysis Version 2 (Borenstein, Hedges, Higgins, Rothstein), a new program developed with funding from the National Institutes of Health. The course is intended for people who need to run or interpret meta analyses in their work. Attendees should have some familiarity with meta analysis, but the course will cover the basics before moving on to more advanced topics.
