| Statistical Methods for Evaluating Tests and Biomarkers in Medicine - Continuing Education - Course | ||

| There is a growing need for the rigorous scientific evaluation of tests that purport to detect disease or predict future outcomes for patients. For example, biomarkers are sought to identify disease or other medical conditions. The pace at which new medical technologies are being developed to detect disease, to predict its course and to evaluate response to therapy, is truly amazing. Proteomics, genomics, cell flow cytometry and imaging modalities are among the array of new tools available. In addition, improvements to existing technologies are continually being made. Rigorous scientific studies must be conducted to determine the accuracy and value of these biotechnologies. The statistical methods described in this course are geared towards the design and evaluation of such studies. The course will be presenting in two modules. Part I covers issues in study design and should be accessible to those with rudimentary knowledge of statistics. Part II concerns statistical methodology for data analysis and will be somewhat more technical in nature. Code to implement the methods in STATA is available. OPTIONAL TEXTBOOK AVAILABLE | ||
