Abstract:

It is a common practice in many household surveys to use CPS data or generating control totals in raking or poststratification. Nadimpalli, Judkins, and Chu (2004) suggested a way to reflect the variability of the CPS statistics in the corresponding estimates of sampling errors. Because they were unable to estimate their covariance from public data sources, they assumed CPS estimates of the interior cells of the table defined by the raking dimensions are independent. The focus of this paper is estimating the covariance matrix so dependent structure of the interior cells can be mimicked in the replicated control totals.
