Title: Estimation of Causal Effects Using Instrumental Variables
Author(s): Zhiqiang Tan*+

Address: 615 N Wolfe St, Baltimore, MD, 21205, United States
Keywords: causal inference ; instrumental variable ; propensity score
Abstract:

Recent researches in econometrics and statistics have gained considerable insights into the use of instrumental variables (IV) for causal inference. We build on the modern IV framework, including assumptions and identification results, and develop two estimation methods in parallel to regression adjustment and propensity score weighting in the case of treatment selection based on covariates. We illustrate the methods by an application to estimating return to education. The talk will be based on a working paper of the same title available at http://www.bepress.com/jhubiostat/paper76.
