Abstract:

Used properly, stratification can assure the balance of a clinical trial, improve the power of the hypothesis tests, and provide more accurate estimates. But as more factors are involved, the gain in power diminishes. This paper demonstrates how stratification affects the balance of clinical trials and promotes the use of stratification with only important factors and minimal permuted block size.
