Abstract #304606

This is the preliminary program for the 2005 Joint Statistical Meetings in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Currently included in this program is the "technical" program, schedule of invited, topic contributed, regular contributed and poster sessions; Continuing Education courses (August 7-10, 2005); and Committee and Business Meetings. This on-line program will be updated frequently to reflect the most current revisions.

Title: Efficiency of Multiple Response Adaptive Estimators
Author(s): Paul Mosquin*+

Address: 3040 Cornwallis Rd, RTP, NC, 27709, United States
Keywords: adaptive sampling ; cluster sampling ; quadrat sampling ; spatial sampling
Abstract:

This talk will describe adaptive sampling designs where the adaptive condition can be satisfied through the joint action of more than one sample unit. Estimators and their variances are given and simulation results are presented to identify situations where the designs are more efficient than their adaptive cluster counterparts. It is found that the estimators can be more efficient, providing protection against poor choice of unit size, frame orientation, and frame placement. The designs can be used with populations that allow a finer frame partitioning than is proposed for sample units of an adaptive cluster design.
