Arlene Ash first became involved in election monitoring issues in December 2000 when she testified about absentee ballot irregularities in Martin County, Florida, in the hotly contested presidential election of that year. She will come prepared to discuss statistical anomalies in the 2000 and 2004 elections and, more generally, the role of statisticians and the ASA in improving the quality of U.S. elections.
