Title: A Study of Roadside Remote Sensing Mobile Emissions Data

Abstract:

Roadside remote sensing devices have been developed to measure several key pollutant ratios for individual vehicles while these vehicles are driving past on the road. Many potential uses of measurements from these devices have been identified, such as the identification of individual vehicles that are gross emitters (using license-plate identification). In this talk, we discuss a few of the important scientific questions regarding vehicle emissions and statistical challenges encountered when trying to address these with the remote sensing data. We illustrate the value of statistical graphical displays when studying the interrelationships between mobile emissions pollutant ratios as measured by roadside remote sensing devices.
