Title: Rapid-feedback Quizzing and Methods of Implementation: A Case Study in Classroom Research

Abstract:

This research involves three primary aspects related to enhancing the learning of students in the engineering course statistics. The first was to write and implement a concept inventory for the course, the second to explore the effect of rapid-feedback quizzing on student learning, and third to compare two implementations of the rapid-feedback quizzing (PDAs vs. flashcards). This talk will look at the statistician's role in the latter two aspects of the work. Included will be initial discussions about motivations for the design of the experiment, both in handling the classes and in the model used to analyze the data. Then, we will learn what actually happened in the implementation of the experiment and discuss the analysis of the data gathered to date and plans for the next round.
