Title: On the Mixture of Regressions

Abstract:

Finite mixture models are used when sampling from a population that consists of subpopulations with similar characteristics, but with at least one separate identifying mark. I consider a mixture of regressions model to describe pairs of data (X, Y). For example, the mixture of regressions is used in modeling judgments for a child's thinking strategy when given certain tasks (Thomas and Horton 1997). The goals of this talk are two-fold. First is to discuss allowing the mixing weights of the model to depend on the predictor. The purpose is to investigate, given the predictor, which of the K regression equations in the model is the best to predict the values of the response. Second is to address the matter of label switching that leads to identifiability issues.
