JSM 2005 - Toronto

Abstract #303542

This is the preliminary program for the 2005 Joint Statistical Meetings in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Currently included in this program is the "technical" program, schedule of invited, topic contributed, regular contributed and poster sessions; Continuing Education courses (August 7-10, 2005); and Committee and Business Meetings. This on-line program will be updated frequently to reflect the most current revisions.

Abstract:

We describe how judgment poststratification can be used in a finite population setting. We outline the basic sampling plan and its connection to simple random sampling and show how it can be extended to replace stratified sampling and cluster sampling plans. We focus on the incorporation of auxiliary information to improve estimation through the traditional techniques of ratio and regression estimation. We develop new forms of ratio and regression estimators for the judgment poststratified sampling plan, derive their asymptotic distributions, and note the increased accuracy due to the new sampling plan. We illustrate the success of the method through simulation and for estimation based on the Fragile Families and Child Well-being Study.
