Title: On the Difference between Two Distribution Functions

Abstract:

Two populations often are compared by considering the difference in their means and/or standard deviations. An alternative approach is to consider measures of the difference in their distribution functions. We define three such measures and derive properties of each for both continuous and discrete populations. When the populations are normally distributed, application of one of the measures produces a new parameter that is a simple function of the population means and standard deviations. Finally, we define an estimator for the new parameter and derive its properties.
