Abstract:

The use of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) has become a common technique in the social science researcher's toolkit. However, it is not without its critics. What have we learned about the benefits and problems of SEM? What are the "hot" new research topics that need to be addressed? How has the use of these models led to decisions or insights facilitated by such models, even when the underlying assumptions were violated? Are users of commercial software for SEM sufficiently aware of the statistical issues? In this talk, it is hoped we can share our experiences and concerns and discuss the research questions being pursued.
