Abstract:

Current trends in statistical pedagogy include use of real data in the classroom, statistical activities, and innovative use of technology. Many departments of statistics have revamped their statistics courses to reflect these trends. Yet research on whether such advances are truly helpful to the students is scarce. This leaves some educators wondering whether we are using new trends in statistics education for our own benefit, rather than that of the students. During this lunch, we will discuss existing research and what further research needs to be done. The discussion also will touch on issues of research design and outcomes assessment.
