Title:	A Measurement of Missouri School Board Member Training

Abstract:	School board members in the Missouri public school system (preK-12) are required to participate in one of two forms of board training funded by the state education department. While the state continually funds these programs, no analysis has been completed to determine the worth of the initiative. Board members---of which there are some who were trained by organization 1, some trained by organization 2, and some who have not received training---were surveyed. Initial analysis showed the training---based in the areas of board operations, relationships, law, policy, and goal setting---is worthwhile as trained members have a better understanding of most of the above five areas. Closer analysis, however, showed differences based on the type of board training in four of the five areas.
