Abstract:

Classical multivariate statistical analyses can be supported strongly by interactive statistical graphics. When working with geographically referenced data, interactive maps come into play. Interactive maps allow a quick evaluation of patterns and anomalies, which are usually hard to capture with numerical statistics. This talk presents the usage of interactive maps in the interactive data visualization software Mondrian and shows advantages and limitations of this approach compared to standard static maps and geographical statistical methods.
