Title: What Do Students Remember from Statistics Class?

Abstract:

We gave students from the current and previous three semesters of an algebra-based, introductory statistics course a voluntary exam on topics from the course with the goal of assessing what students retained from their introductory statistics course. In general, the study suggests that students retain nonmathematical concepts such as principles of study design and the interpretation of standard graphics. The study also provides lessons for those interested in conducting studies on statistical education that range from the difficulties of getting permission from Internal Review boards to the design of the instrument.
