Abstract:

This talk addresses analysis of longitudinal and recurrent event outcomes. Such outcomes arise in a variety of applications, including a broad array of clinical situations where a longitudinal biomarker may provide information about recurring disease onsets or symptoms. The model accommodates a number of features of the recurrent event process that have particularly appealing interpretation in clinical settings. These features include a baseline hazard governed by biological age, rather than calendar time, and an effect for the accumulating event history on the hazard. Association between the longitudinal and recurrent event processes is captured through a latent class structure, which can aid discovery of subpopulations with distinct outcome patterns. Model interpretation is illustrated through application to real data.
