Abstract:

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) introduced the Cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid (caBIG) in Summer 2003. Since then, 46 cancer centers have been funded for the initial three-year funding period. These centers participate in various developmental and implementation efforts across three domain workspaces (Integrative Cancer Research, Clinical Trial Management Systems, and Tissue Banks and Pathology Tools) and two "cross-cutting" workspaces (Architecture and Vocabulary). The primary goal of caBIG is to provide a central grid for sharing common software tools, data, models, methodologies, knowledge, and expertise related to biomedical informatics to facilitate translational cancer research. This speaker panel consists of representatives from three funded centers participating in caBIG and a representative from the NCI. The panelists will present information regarding caBIG from the perspective of biostatisticians and discuss the roles biostatisticians currently have and may have in the future as caBIG progresses.
