Author(s): Mohammed Alam*+ and Marepalli Rao

Keywords: Multiple Testing ; Type I error ; Type II error ; False Discovery Rate ; Family-wise error rate
Abstract:

In the framework of single hypothesis testing, the concepts of Type-I and Type-II error are well laid out. The literature on multiple hypotheses testing is replete with a number of ideas on how type-I error should be defined. However, not much is discussed on how type-II error should be defined. In this presentation, we will outline a number of ideas how to define type-II error probability via simple illustrative examples.
