Abstract:

This paper discusses the challenges in measuring the Wholesale Trade Sector, the economy's middleman, during a time when supply chains are increasingly global and electronic flows of information are rapidly changing business models. Has the middleman been eliminated? Quite the opposite, the middleman is not only surviving but thriving. This paper explores the impact of these trends on the measurement of basic collection items such as sales and inventories.
