Title: Statistical Methods for Genetic Association Studies in Isolated Populations

Abstract:

For genome-wide genetic association studies in isolated populations, one potential bias may be unknown genetic structures in the sample. These include unknown degrees of inbreeding and unknown relationships in the collected samples. We recently developed novel statistical methods to use genomic markers in large-scale, genome-wide scans to infer localized inbreeding coefficients for the sampled individuals and localized kinship coefficients for pairs of samples. The inferred sample-structure information is then incorporated in genetic association analysis. In this talk, we will describe our developed statistical methods and demonstrate their usefulness and power through simulation studies in addition to their applications to a real genetic study.
